LOSS OF BOLLYWOOD

Bollywood Strike Ends counting a loss of 3 billion rupees
by response@bollywoodgossips.net

Bollywood News : The two-month-long standoff between the producers-distributors and multiplex owners over revenue sharing, which was resolved on June 5, Friday, has led to a whopping Rs.300 crore (Rs.3 billion) loss to the industry.

Bollywood strike ends as multiplexes open doors

“The strike has cost the Indian film industry over Rs.3 billion,” Mukesh Bhatt, United Producers and Distributors Forum (UPDF) chairman, revealed in an interview.

The standoff between producers-distributors and multiplex owners started in February over revenue sharing. While the producers demanded a flat 50 per cent share of all film revenues irrespective of the stars, budget and box office collection, the exhibitors stressed on sharing profits based on the earnings of a film.

Bollywood strike ends as multiplexes open doors

As a result the producers declared a strike April 4 onwards, which saw no new releases of Bollywood films in multiplexes across the country.

The strike came to an end on Friday morning after the two parties agreed on new format of revenue sharing.

According to the final settlement, 50, 42, 35 and 30 per cent for the first, second, third and fourth week respectively for all movies will be shared between the two parties.

Bollywood strike ends as multiplexes open doors

The Bollywood strike has also affected auxiliary industries like hoardings and advertising. They are said to have suffered an estimated loss of Rs.100 crore (Rs.1 billion).

The combined fixed cost losses – rent, salary, electricity bills – for all multiplexes for the first quarter (April-June) is expected to be around Rs.140 crore, said industry sources.

Time to pull up your socks and overcome the losses… Jai Ho Bollywood!!

NON-BAILABLE ARREST WARRENT AGAINST SRK?

Non-bailable arrest warrant against SRK?
by response@bollywoodgossips.net

Bollywood News : The controversy around Shah Rukh Khan’s supposed statements against Prophet Mohammad is just not dying down.

Now it seems that the police might issue a non-bailable warrant against the superstar for hurting the sentiments of the Muslim community.

The confusion began with SRK’s interview to a magazine, which admittedly misquoted his statements about the Prophet, referring to him as a negative figure.

This enraged some members of the Muslim community who lodged an FIR against him.

SRK has subsequently clarified a number of times that he never made that statement and has been misquoted by the magazine.

The magazine as well admitted that it was a printing error and King Khan had called the Prophet the most positive figure and not the most negative figure. Errata have been published with every issue of the magazine.

However, some still think that SRK is trying to get away with making derogatory statements and then retracting them, and hence the issue has got more entagled.

Bollywood Gossip : A little birdie tipped us on the ever fresh and sexy Bollywood Actress Riya Sen’s new role in debutant director Yunus Sajawal’s film ‘Benoo and Babloo’ – Riya Sen becomes a stylist – not for reel, but for real!

The actress is currently in Pune shooting with co-stars KK Menon and Rajpal Yadav and had to rush to Mumbai amidst her tight shooting schedule. Wonder why? Apparently, there was some problem with Riya’s costumes in the film and the lady immediately took it upon herself to design the entire look for her character.

Salman not invited to Katrina’s birthday
by response@bollywoodgossips.net

Bollywood Gossip : Bollywood Actors Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan managed to assure the world that they are still together after Katrina appeared on the latest episode of Dus Ka Dum and Salman sang and danced for her.

While on the one hand, it seems things are going well for the couple, Katrina Kaif recently decided that she will spend her 25th birthday without her beau.

Afterall, it isn’t just Kat’s 25th anniversary, but also the first anniversary of the Salman-SRK fight that had taken place during Katrina’s birthday celebrations.

Some might remember that an inebriated Salman Khan had asked SRK to come on his show Dus Ka Dum, and SRK had refused, leading to a heated exchange of words and reportedly also some violence.

It was Katrina and SRK’s wife Gauri who had to intervene. Pictures of a crying Katrina were all over the media.

As a result, this year, Katrina is looking for some peace and quiet. She was quoted saying she is really looking forward to going home – London – to be with her family.

She said it will be the first time in nine years that her entire family, that is, her parents and their eight children will be together.

Katrina Kaif says she has been working extra hard to be able to make time for this vacation, or as she call it, this necessity.

Michael Jackson's death: Pop star's body flown from UCLA to Boyle Heights
by Shelby Grad

Michael Jackson's body was flown in a Sheriff's Department helicopter from UCLA Medical Center to downtown Los Angeles for examination by the Los Angeles County coroner's office. TV news stations covered the trip live.

Police officers guarded the entrance to the coroner's building on Mission Road. News helicopters hovered overhead and county police officers and sheriff's deputies are closed access to adjacent County-USC Medical Center parking lots near the State Street entrance to the new hospital.

The lots are far from full, so this appears to be related to the arrival of Michael Jackson's body, which appears to have already occurred. A Sheriff's Department helicopter apparently landed on an older helipad near those parking lots, near the crematorium.

India a natural destination for Hollywood studios

Washington, With a growing middle class, a large English-speaking populace, a booming number of multiplexes and a cinema-obsessed popular culture, India is a natural destination for Hollywood studios, say US and Indian business leaders.

Pointing to the worldwide success of “Slumdog Millionaire” and the release of latest James Bond film, “Quantum of Solace,” in India a full week before its American opening, they suggest a fostering of Hollywood-Bollywood connections.

“The United States and India possess the world’s largest entertainment and media industries, both in terms of sheer output and global popularity. Yet traditionally neither industry had much interaction with the other or enjoyed success in the other’s domestic market,” they noted in a new report released Wednesday.

“However, two signal events, both occurring in recent months, point the way to how important synergies can be exploited for producing new content, forging new creative collaborations and accessing new markets,” the experts said referring to the two films.

Specifically, a task force set up by the Pacific Council on International Policy and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) recommended:

- The United States and India should craft a common approach on cultural market access and use their strategic positions to advance it in global trade negotiations.

- Both countries should devise a joint plan for advancing the digital transformation of the global media industry.

- Both governments should provide adequate funding for efforts to develop advanced fiber-optic networks that enable real-time creative and production partnerships between the two countries.

- Create short-term exchange programmes between US and Indian production companies and film schools designed to foster genuine creative interactions.

- Washington should encourage the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to help the Indian film industry create a counterpart institution.

- The United States and India should eliminate tax and regulatory barriers that continue to impede bi-national production partnerships.

He said."I am confident they will manage to switch to the Test mode quickly and comfortably because more responsibilities and pressures are now on us to do well in Sri Lanka,"

IT Tazee Reviews WorldCall EVDO Broadband Service

Here’s a review of the WorldCall EVDO Broadband Service for 3 months in Karachi, by Mohtashim of IT Tazee. His review is based on the 256kbps speed option.

A few snippets from his review:

Setup: Simple and fast. Since its USB, it self installs and starts to work.
Price : 3000 for the device, and 1200 and up for the service. Yes, home DSL is cheaper and faster, I agree but you do pay dearly for the mobility and to bypass KESC and PTCL all at once!
Speed: We got the speed promised consistently as long as we were in the Karachi metropolitan area.

iPhone 3GS Challenges BlackBerry for Business Use

The new iPhone 3GS went on sale Friday morning with new and improved features that may draw more business users as Apple moves to challenge the dominance of BlackBerry.

The lines are not as long and the frenzy not as strong as Apple saw with previous iPhone launches, but the demand on the street seems healthy. Advance orders may have helped reduce the long waits in lines at retail stores across the country.

"We understand that customers are eager to get their hands on this great new device," said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets. "So we've worked hard to make the experience as easy as possible."

Despite the preparation on AT&T's part, reports of Apple's servers lagging under the strain of new iPhone 3GS activations are widespread. Complicating matters is older iPhone owners trying to download the iPhone OS 3.0 software to their devices. But it's the new operating system that may help draw business users to the new iPhone.

A Business-Friendly iPhone 3GS

Beyond the speed of the iPhone 3GS, the OS 3.0 software offers mobile-phone users a slew of new features that are driving downloads, more than 100 in all. Some analysts expect the upgraded hardware-software combination to cause some business users to consider the device ready for corporate prime time.

Features like Cut, Copy and Paste that are found on the BlackBerry were previously missing from the iPhone. The ability to capture and send audio recordings on the go with a new Voice Memo app may also be attractive to business users. On the security front, a feature called Remote Wipe lets you erase all the data on an iPhone that gets lost, reducing the possibility of proprietary information getting into the wrong hands.

A feature called Spotlight Search lets users search across the iPhone or within.

FIXED LINE NUMBER GOING 8 DIGIT

It was being heard from quite a long time that fixed line numbers will be going 8 digits to increase the pool of numbers available. This is now confirmed as reported by different media channels and news papers. An excerpt from Business Recorder follows.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) would shift its fixed line numbering plan from 7 to 8 digit series as per the instructions of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. Initially migration from 7 series to 8 digit series would take place in Lahore and Karachi.

As per details, Digit “3″ will be added in all existing 7 digits numbers of Karachi and Lahore except the numbers starting from “9″. Digit “9″ will be added in all existing numbers starting from “9″. An important point to remember is the numbers are being added to existing numbers not area codes, with the exemption of army exchanges, which would remain same.

For the customer’s awareness and facilitation, the new series plan will run parallel to old one for a period of three months w.e.f. July 1, 2009 till September 30, 2009. The period from October 1, 2009 till December 30, 2009 will be covered by announcements which would be made in order to facilitate subscribers/ customers.
